let’s talk tuesday >>> our sin, God’s love

...amazing love be unto you...in Christ...And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said unto them," Receive ye the Holy Spirit;" John 20:22

Just finished the book of Hosea in my personal devotions. It definitely opened my eyes to how serious sin is in the eyes of our God. The Israelites lived in complete rebellion towards God. In return, Hosea perfectly expresses God’s outrage and righteous anger towards the children of Israel.

Hosea 11:7 says, “My people are bent on backsliding from Me. Though they call on the Most High, none at all exalt Him.”

Can you imagine? They were “bent” on backsliding. In other words, they were knowingly and purposely sinning against God Almighty. What amazed me this morning were these last few words of the Lord to His children.

Hosea 14:4 says, “I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely, for My anger has turned away from him.”

After 13 chapters expressing His immense anger towards the people of Israel and their sin, God says He will heal them and love them. Thank goodness I’m not God because I would have reacted quite differently.

Take a moment and cherish your life. By letting you live another day, God is showing you His mercy. We are wicked people by nature. We sin every single day. God hates sin. Yet God in His mercy, allows us to live and enjoy life. Why? Because He loves us unconditionally. Does that fact allow us to live however we want? No, we still need to glorify the Lord in everything we do. I love how Hosea reminds us of God’s love for His children, despite how wicked and imperfect we are.

Ephesians 2:4 says, “But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)…”
