My family and I, as well as other families have been going through a tremendous hardship. This season of life is taking its toll on all of us in different ways. Headaches, loss of sleep, tears, and sadness…all of it. Although I am not emotional outwardly, my heart really does hurt. The damage that has come out of this hardship is hard to believe and we simply have to trust in God for strength and help. The effects that one sin can have is quite destructive and is very hard to believe and very difficult to completely fathom. And the storm rages on….you can sing Frozen’s “Let it go” if you wish. :0)
Our hope rests in this; that God is our strength and hope in times of trouble. John 16:33 says, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” Jesus promised us that we will have tribulation, but guess what? He’s already won the battle so whatever Satan tries to throw at us should never hinder us from continuing to serve the Lord. Jesus tells us to be of good cheer! That is probably easier said than done, but we still need to practice cheerfulness no matter our current circumstances. So we are to have peace because we are in Him, however because we live in this fallen world, there is definitely going to be hurt. But we are to still have a cheerful countenance. Hurt and cheerful don’t sound like they should go together, right? Well, they should.
As Christians, we are to be a light to this sinful world. Instead of being grumpy about our circumstances, be happy! (I know, it’s definitely not your natural “go to” attitude when things are going badly). But still, change your attitude and your countenance! We want people to look at us and say, “Wow, I would have never guessed that they were going through a hard time. They just seem so happy!” Yes, there is a time to mourn and to cry, but don’t let that take over your life. Have a merry heart through it all! Besides, as Christians, we have a lot to be thankful and joyful about! And our reward is pure bliss. Be happy today and let the world see Jesus through you!
