The True Meaning of Christmas

This is the time of year when everyone braves the malls and shopping centers just to buy their loved ones gifts. This is the time of year when families buy and decorate their trees with ornaments that each have a special meaning to them. This is the time of year when friends and family gather to eat, open presents, eat, play games, eat, admire presents, etc. This is the time of year that brings happiness and cheer to everyone. But, do we ever look back and ask ourselves, “What is the meaning of all this?” Yes, it is an American as well as a worldwide tradition, but everything has a background or a meaning, so what is Christmas all about?

The answer is this. About 2,000 years ago a baby was born. Not just any baby, He was going to be the Savior of the world. He was God Himself, coming to earth as a man to take away the sins and wrongdoings of every person who would ever live. He was Jesus Christ.

Born in the little town of Bethlehem in Israel, Jesus was the Son of God, physically brought into the world by Mary His mother. He was born in a humble manger because there was no room for Him in the inn. He was raised like every other Jewish boy, but He was still 100% man and 100% God. He eventually fulfilled the prophecies and sacrificed himself on the cross for our sins. BUT He rose again on the third day. He conquered death and now all we have to do is repent from out sins and live for God with our whole lives.

So, the meaning of Christmas is essentially in it’s name; CHRISTmas. A coincidence, I think not. God left the glory of Heaven to come to earth as a helpless baby boy, in order to eventually die on the cross for the world’s sins. What other little g god does this? This GOD is real and He wants you to believe in Him, live for Him, and eventually live in Heaven for eternity with Him. This is the true meaning of Christmas.

Now, just to set one thing straight, I am all for the Christmas tree, the presents, the food, the games, and the friends and family, but all of that is not the true meaning of Christmas. So, this Christmas I encourage you all to remember that God came into the world as the baby boy Jesus, in order to die for YOUR sins. Your sins are forgiven, all you need to do now is repent, and start living a godly life.

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas!! Just remember that Jesus is the reason for the season.

❤ Sarah
